Grilling Trend Impacts Holiday Preparations

2005-11-09

Washington, D.C. (November 9, 2005) – As Americans begin to prepare holiday meals this fall and winter, many will be cooking outside on gas grills. The trend in “year-round grilling” is helping to diversify what’s on the holiday dining table, allowing festive favorites to be prepared on cooktops, ovens and, increasingly, gas grills.

“Interest in winter grilling is growing,” said Randy Chitty, chairman of the Propane Education & Research Council’s Homeowner Subcommittee. “Americans love the ease, interesting flavors and entertainment aspects of grilling, all of which play an important role when preparing a holiday feast.”

According to the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA), 85 percent of U.S. families have a barbecue grill and 60 percent of grill owners cook out year round. In addition to creating unique flavor, grilling holiday dishes can free up more space for items consumers might prefer to cook inside.

To showcase how Americans across the country are enjoying all kinds of cooking methods this holiday season, PERC is sponsoring a holiday cooking contest. By submitting a favorite recipe online, participants can enter to win $1,000 towards the purchase of a new gas oven, cooktop or grill.
